February Ladies’ Tea

Thursday FEBRUARY 27TH | 11:00 - 1:00

IN THE INTERSECT GALLERY

Ladies are invited to join April on Thursday February 27th for tea. You are welcome to prepare some pretty finger-foods to bring along as well. Also feel free to dress up in cute semi-fancy clothes, if you enjoy doing that. Hats are also always welcome at a tea party, of course.

Please RSVP (below) as soon as you know you can come, but by February 23rd at the latest.

Feel free to invite friends. If you do, please make sure they rsvp as well : )

As you prepare your menu

If you would like to consider some dietary needs, but you need some ideas, here is a small list of suggestions. But please don’t feel pressured to do so 💛 We all know that everyone cares for us, at the Ladies’ Teas, because they came and they’re smiling, listening, and sharing time with us. So whatever you decide to bring, whether it’s your grandma’s 1-2-3-4 pound cake recipe with 3 cups of white flour, or a new gluten-free, diary-free cupcake recipe you’re trying for the first time, or nothing at all - we will all know that you care about each of us, and we’re excited to spend time with you 💛

*April will always have gluten-free crackers available on the table.

A NOTE FOR MOTHERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN and infants

We will be providing childcare in the church basement, during the event from 10:45 to 1:15. Please let April know if you have any questions about this.

If you have a nursing infant, please feel free to bring your baby along to the tea. Everyone will be very happy to see a baby. And please don’t feel obligated to bring food to share. There’s always plenty to go around and your hands are full enough as it is.

There is a changing table in the women’s restroom. And if you would like a private space to nurse, you may use April’s studio on the third floor.

LADIES’ CHRISTMAS TEA

EVIDENCE OF JOY ladies’ Tea - OCTOBER

We had a great bunch of ladies all come together in the Intersect Gallery for the Evidence of Joy Ladies’ Tea. They brought yummy food to share and lovely stories. At the beginning we each shared a story about a joy we had witnessed recently. In the middle we had a lovely dance performance by the dancers of JoJo's Dance Co. And then we all shared an item from our home that brings us joy, and a story to go along with that. It was one of the loveliest teas we've had. I wish I could encapsulate it in time. I'm not capable, but maybe Someone is doing that for me, and for us : ) Who knows. I like to wonder about these things.

Blue Hour Ladies’ Tea - February

The Blue Hour Ladies’ Tea was lovely. Together, we reflected on the idea of Blue Hour being a moment of transition and metamorphosis. April led a devotion and art-making-moment around the idea that, as Christians, we are in a constant state of metamorphosis. We daily need to shed the “old Adam” and put on the image of Christ (Colossians 3:9-10).

Jesus’ teaching about the greatest commandment helped us to reflect on how He helps us to daily metamorphize from the “old Adam” into an image of Christ.

Matthew 22:35-39 : And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Together we processed thru ways that we can Love God, each-other, and ourselves. We thought about those questions in a general sense and also specifically as artists. Then we each made our own Blue Hour piece using our left hands, inspired by Lori Marble’s artwork and statement [below].

Twilight Garden by Lori Marble

Artist statement :

The year before the pandemic I underwent surgery to implant a deep brain stimulator (DBS) to treat hemi-dystonia on my left side. The main “ask” of the surgeon was ‘don’t get sick’. So, for the next month, predominantly right handed, I stayed from daylight to dark in my studio, teaching myself to paint using my left hand, testing and stretching the limits of how this device impacts my work. In short order, the pandemic slid in and once again I found myself spending a great deal of time in my studio, in front of the large windows overlooking my raised flower beds, watching the light shift from golden to the blue hour. I still paint left-handed and much of my inspiration comes from the changing light outside my window.
